Collecchio

Situated along the Via Francigena, between the hills and the plain, in the heart of the ‘Food Valley’, Collecchio (from Colliculum, meaning small hill) is a territory where tradition, the environment, food and wine and the agri-food industry blend harmoniously together.
In the village of Ozzano Taro the Ettore Guatelli Museum, with its 60.000 tools, bears unique witness to the farming life and culture of the area.
Part of the circuit of four Food Museums in the Parma area, located in the splendid Court of Giarola, is the Tomato Museum, which pays homage to the fruit of the land which, for its importance in the development of the local economy, has earned the title of ‘red gold’.
In addition to its tomatoes and the ‘classic’ production of cured meats and Parmigiano-Reggiano, the territory is known for its excellent wine production, particularly in the hill areas of Gaiano and Ozzano Taro.
In the heart of the Collecchio area, shared with the municipality of Sala Baganza, lies the Boschi di Carrega Regional Park, offering not only a rich variety of natural environments but also some precious architectural gems, including the Casino dei Boschi, the favourite summer residence of Marie Louise, Duchess of Parma.
The municipality of Collecchio also includes around 20 km of the Taro River Regional Park: a natural oasis where visitors can admire an extraordinary variety of flora and fauna in different environments. The town of Collecchio also offers some places of interest to visit: Villa Soragna, set in the attractive Nevicati public park, and the church of San Prospero dating back to the 9th century.
