Of Lombard origins, today Sala Baganza lies around the elegant Castle, built in 1477 at the will of Gilberto III Sanvitale, and is a reference point in a territory rich in excellences, starting with its food and wine.
The hills of Sala Baganza are home to most of the vineyards in the area, producing the renowned sweet or dry Malvasia di Candia aromatic DOC and sparkling Rosso di Parma DOC, ideal served with the local specialities: from Parmigiano-Reggiano to the inimitable cured meats.

The Festival della Malvasia is held in May: it is a contest among the local producers to crown the best Malvasia from a territory filled with enchanting views and places of interest.
The Boschi di Carrega was in 1982 acknowledged as the first regional park and covers 1270 hectares with a wide range of woodland hosting a variety of local fauna.
The park is also home to some splendid buildings, including the Casino dei Boschi with its delightful annexed theatre, and Villa del Ferlaro (not open to public).
Of great historical and geological importance, in the elegant peaks an abundance of sea fossils can be found in the area known as the Maiatico badlands.
In the hamlet of Talignano it is possible to visit the 12th century Romanic church. The most interesting building in Sala Baganza from an historical and artistic point of view is however the Rocca Sanvitale, a classic example of a noble residence, housing rich frescoes, paintings and sculptures.
Next to the Rocca lies the splendid Farnesian historical garden, recently restored to its former splendour using historical maps and documentation.
